For high speed data rate transmission, we can qualify electrical or optical components in a variety of conditions:

• Modulating a 12.5 Gb/s data stream onto a fiber, then measuring the resulting eye diagram on the receiving end for signal quality
• Using a Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) and a Bit Error Tester (BERT), measuring the BERT rate across the fiber
